A PROGENY OF PERPETUAL INDEPENDENCE
Crafted collaboratively with Black community members in Minneapolis, Liz Gre and Junauda Petrus’ A Progeny of Perpetual Independence explores the fight for liberation across its colorful dimensions—from terror and transformation to joy and wildness. This piece is part of the Kennedy Center’s Cartography Project, a new curatorial music program led by the National Symphony of DC and the Washington Opera, and our Social Impact department.

With Amber R. Monroe, soprano; Karen Lowry-Tucker, violin; Amy Frost Baumgarten, violoncello; Christian Gray, double bass; Dana Scott, piano
Inspired by the National Memorial for Peace and Justice, a visual interpretation of the moral trauma of our history, The Cartography Project seeks to use music as both a source of healing and a way to open dialogue about the future of anti-racism.
